ASO
ASO for iGaming apps
Store listings for iGaming apps on the App Store and Google Play, built to rank for the right searches and turn store visits into installs and depositing players.
Who it is for
iGaming operators with a real-money app on the App Store or Google Play, or about to publish one, in markets where the stores allow it. It fits a brand whose app is hard to find in store search, a brand whose store page gets visits but few installs, and a brand that sends paid or creator traffic to the store and wants that traffic to convert.
What ASO is
App Store Optimization is the work on everything in a store listing that affects two things: whether people find the app in store search, and whether they install it once they land on the page.
For an iGaming app there is a third question that comes first: whether the store will list the app in that market at all. Apple and Google both treat real-money gaming as a regulated category, and both decide market by market.
The two stores also work differently. On the App Store, search relies mostly on the app name, the subtitle and a hidden keyword field, and the long description does little for ranking. On Google Play, the title, short description and full description are all read for search. A listing written once and copied to both stores leaves ranking on the table.
How we run it
- Confirm store eligibility by market. We check which markets the operator’s licences cover, how the app is geo-restricted, and which developer account publishes it.
- Research search terms by market and language. Brand terms, product and category terms, and the words players actually type in each language, ranked by volume and by how close they are to an install.
- Write the metadata. App name, subtitle and keyword field for the App Store. Title, short description and full description for Google Play. One set for each localisation, inside each store’s character limits.
- Design the visual assets. Icon, screenshots, preview video, and the feature graphic on Google Play. The first screenshots carry the main message, because many visitors never scroll.
- Test one change at a time. Product page optimization on the App Store and store listing experiments on Google Play, run until the result is clear, then rolled out.
- Match pages to traffic sources. Custom product pages on the App Store and custom store listings on Google Play, so a Meta campaign or a streamer’s link lands on a page that continues its message.
- Work on ratings and reviews. Reply to reviews, pass recurring problems to the product team, and use the stores’ own in-app review prompts.
- Watch and react. Rankings, competitor moves, app review outcomes and store policy changes, after every release and every store update.
The store rules this channel works within
- App Store licensing. The App Store Review Guidelines section on Gaming, Gambling, and Lotteries requires real-money gaming apps to have the licences and permissions needed in each location where the app is used, and to be geo-restricted to those locations.
- App Store distribution terms. Real-money gaming apps must be free on the App Store, cannot use in-app purchase to buy credit for real-money play, and must be submitted by the legal entity that provides the service, not by an individual developer.
- Google Play eligibility. Google Play’s real-money gambling policy allows these apps only in eligible countries, after an application and approval, from operators licensed in those countries, with the app geo-restricted and closed to under-age users.
- Metadata rules. Apple does not allow trademarked terms or other apps’ names in metadata. Google Play does not allow misleading or repetitive keywords, or ranking claims in the title and icon.
- Local advertising rules. Screenshots and descriptions are marketing. Rules on bonus claims and age messaging in the market can apply to them as well.
How we measure it
ASO is measured in players, not downloads. The numbers we track:
- Keyword rankings for the target terms, by store, market and language.
- Impressions and product page views from App Store Connect and the Google Play Console.
- Conversion rate from page view to install, by page, test and traffic source.
- Installs by source: store search, browse, and each paid or creator link.
- Registrations, first deposits and revenue from store traffic, through the operator’s tracking.
A ranking gain that brings installs but no deposits is reported as what it is.
What you get
- A keyword map for each store, market and language.
- Metadata and asset sets for each localisation, ready to submit.
- A test log: what was tested, the result, and what went live.
- A report with rankings, page conversion, installs, and the registrations and first deposits from store traffic.
- Policy notes: review outcomes, rejections and how they were solved, and store policy changes that affect the app.
Questions
Can a real-money iGaming app be listed on the App Store and Google Play?
Yes, in markets where the stores allow it. Apple requires the app to be licensed in each location where it is used, geo-restricted to those locations, free to download and published by the legal entity that provides the service. Google Play accepts these apps only in eligible countries, after an application, from licensed operators.
How is ASO different on iOS and Android?
On the App Store, search relies mostly on the app name, subtitle and a hidden keyword field. On Google Play, the title, short description and full description all count. Testing differs too: Apple has product page optimization, Google Play has store listing experiments. GOATS builds a separate plan for each store and each market.
Which store listing elements matter most for an iGaming app?
For search: the app name or title, the subtitle or short description, and the keywords. For installs: the icon, the first screenshots, the preview video and the rating. Many visitors decide from the top of the page, so the first screenshots carry the main message and the market's required age messaging.
How do you measure ASO for an iGaming app?
By keyword rankings, product page views, the conversion rate from page view to install, and then the registrations and first deposits that store traffic brings. Installs alone are not the goal. An app that ranks well but brings players who never deposit is not working, so tracking runs past the install.
Can ASO work together with paid and creator channels?
Yes. Apple's custom product pages and Google Play's custom store listings let each traffic source land on a page that matches its message. A Meta campaign, a streamer's link or a celebrity post can each point to its own page, with its own tracking, so the store page continues the ad instead of repeating a generic pitch.
